It wasn't a friendship in the most conventional use of the word.

“Oi! Timcanpy!” Allen wailed, trying to grab the golem which flew tantalisingly out of reach, Allen's neck ribbon handing from it's mouth.

In fact, an outsider probably wouldn't consider it much of a friendship – at all.

“Tim! Give it back! Dammit! I'm going to be late for the mission briefing!” Allen tried to grab Timcanpy as it swerved through the air above his head, it's tail flicking teasingly at the boy below.

“If you don't give that back right now I'll...I'll...” he cast about for a reasonable idea, before perking up, “I won't get you any dango! Or sandwiches! And I'll tell Jerry not to feed you on the sly!”

Timcanpy suddenly jerked to a halt in mid-air, the ribbon slipping from it's fanged jaws to land on the floor.

Allen picked the ribbon up, grimacing at the slightly soggy wet patch on it, which thankfully wouldn't be noticeable when he was wearing it. “Ugh. Tim, that's gross.”

Tim fluttered worriedly and Allen sighed, petting Timcanpy when the golem alighted on his mop of white hair. “Don't worry, I'll feed you. I didn't mean it.”

But it worked.
