Watch and Learn by esama
Fandom: Hikaru no Go
Rating: K+ (Teen-Friendly)

Of all the fanfiction I've read and enjoyed, and all the authors I like, there is one in particular whom I adore beyond all others. This author is esama. Having written in at least sixteen fandoms, and to date at least one hundred and sixteen stories, esama is a prolific and extremely talented writer. I have yet to come across a story that esama has written that I do not like. This is a first for me when it comes to a writer who has written as many stories as esama has.

Esama's first published story on Fanfiction.net was in 2007, and she rarely takes breaks from writing fanfiction. She also has a Yahoo Group called esamas_station, which is extremely active and interactive. In January of this year, 2012, esama began a Tumblr blog, and she regularly post and interacts with us, her fans on there, as well as treating us to brand new snippets, stories and other exciting posts that don't show up anywhere else, or are delayed elsewhere.

Quite a few of my 100 Things posts will be stories that esama has written, but for this post, the story I wish to share with you is from the Hikaru no Go fandom, and it is entitled 'Watch and Learn'.

          Title: Watch and Learn
          By: esama
          Fandom: Hikaru no Go
Status: Complete (with sequel - 'Trial and Error')
          Word Count: 132,726
Summary: When God gives Hikaru his wish, he begins his journey again with a new goal in life,
          to prevent Sai from fading.

          ***EXTRA***

          Sequel to 'Watch and Learn'
          Title: Trial and Error
          By: esama
          Fandom: Hikaru no Go
          Status: WIP
          Word Count: 38,596
Summary: With another wish granted, it's Sai's turn to uptake a new journey in life with Hikaru
there to help all the way.

'Watch and Learn' is a time-travel story, in which Hikaru travels back to the beginning, to where and when it all began, and re-lives his life only living for Sai, and for Sai's Go. Of course, things can't stay that way, and Sai soon realises something is wrong with Hikaru.

What I love about this story is the sheer life that's in this story. 'Watch and Learn' is written so beautifully, so vividly, so perfectly, that you actually feel like you are there watching the story unfold in front of your eyes.

Both Hikaru and Sai are fleshed out magnificently, and even though this is a Go-oriented story, it's so much more than that. There's the kind of growth we wish we could have seen in the series, which is, unfortunately, complete, and so our imagination is the only place in which these characters can continue to bloom, and that's what esama has given us. A gorgeous story with characters that feel real. Ogata Seiji also benefits from esama's delicate touch, and his participation in this story, although small, is groundbreaking and opens up Hikaru's character in incredible ways.

This is, overall, a feel-good story. You read this and feel amazing! If you need a story to inspire you, to cheer you up, to excite you, or simply to relax with, then 'Watch and Learn' is the perfect choice.

I can honestly say that this is my favourite of all the stories I have read in the HikaGo fandom.

Hugs,

~Shi-koi~
