I've just finished watching the Korean movie of 'Antique Bakery'. I have to admit that it exceeded my expectations.

I absolutely adore this movie. I think I may even prefer it to the anime, although I still prefer the manga (although only slightly more).

This is 'Antique Bakery':

As an heir to the family fortune, Jin-hyuk has money, the looks, the charm, everything except finding the love of his life. So he sets up a cake shop where women are sure to come. He hires Sun-woo, a talented patissier who had a crush on Jin-hyuk back in high school. Along with an ex-boxing champion Gi-beom and a clueless bodyguard Su-young, the four unique and handsome young men stir up the quiet neighborhood at their cake shop, Antique. Although seemingly careless and happy, each of the four men have unforgettable past that they are afraid to face, but their secrets slowly begin to unravel.

The actors they chose to represent the characters are brilliant. Even though the guy who plays Sun-woo (Kim Jae Wok) doesn't look anything like Ono, he really feels right in this role, and he pulls off Sun-woo (aka Ono in the manga/anime) beautifully.

Joo Ji Hoon as Jin-hyuk (aka Tachibana Keiichiro in the manga), is so amazingly perfect as this character. He looks the part. He acts the part. He pulls off his role really, really well.

I wasn't looking forward to watching this as much as I would have been, after reading about how much the J-Drama version was apparently mangled (although I will be watching it eventually, just to see for myself), but this movie stuck surprisingly close to the manga, and captured the real essence of the story.

Of course, they couldn't keep everything that happened in the manga, due to time constraints, but what they managed to fit in worked amazingly well.

I really, really do have to recommend this film to anyone who likes a light-hearted movie with dashes of comedy and drama and a feel-good ending...as long as you don't mind a pinch of shonen-ai in the mix.

Although I doubt anyone is actually reading this entry, you can find the link to download the subbed version of this film at Aarinfantasy's forum, which you'll have to join to DL. The link to Aarinfantasy's main site is here.

Anyway...under the cut some pictures from the film and of the two main actors.

Yummy, huh?

He does, doesn't he? I can't believe this guy is actually a year younger than me! --is shocked--

Heh, I have to say that the manga is more interesting...technically, but it doesn't have the kind of eye-candy that the movie has. =^___^=

--dreamy sigh-- They're so pretty...aren't they? They've completely sold me on K-Movies/dramas. --giggle--

Yeah, saw the movie a few months back, and I must say I enjoyed it very much. I like Kim Jae Wok ever since I saw him in Coffee Prince, but I never thought he could pull such a flamboyantly gay character so well XDD

Still like the manga better, though I don't like the anime much because of the boring colour ;A;

I haven't seen Coffee Prince, although it's on my list of things to watch.

Since I haven't seen Kim Jae Wok act anywhere else, I can't compare his performances, but I can say that his acting in Antique was so natural! I mean, after watching a few BL things recently, (a few of which came across as really really fake, even if the characters only had to touch their hands) the way Kim Jae Wok portrayed his character and Sun-woo's relationship with Jean, well...it was a treat to watch, that much I do have to say.

I loved the storyline in the manga, and I liked the anime because of the seiyuu for Ono, because his voice really stuck with me for some reason, but you're right about the colour, it was just a bit too flat, so my favourite has to remain the manga with this movie creeping in at a very, very close second...so close in fact that they could be having an affair. =^___^=

I've read up on the J-Drama version, but it doesn't look all that appealing. --big sigh-- So it's on the very bottom of my list of things I need to watch.
